About Amy

Amy attended Westtown Friends School and then Friends World College where she traveled and studied in Mexico, England and East Africa.  Trained as a non-violent action trainer and organizer with the Movement for a New Society, she was a founding member of the Philadelphia Nuclear Weapons Freeze Campaign. While bringing up 3 childlren, Amy also taught peer counseling, and organized support groups for familiies of children with disabilities. Her oldest daughter has Down syndrome.  Amy and family have resided in West Philadelphia for 30 years, are active members of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers).  For 2006-7 the family resided in Francistown, Botswana, Africa, while David worked for the University of Pennsylvania's Infectious Disease Department's HIV/AIDS program there.

About Amy


Amy was born in 1952 to Quaker parents in Philadelphia, PA. She is the mother of 2 young adults and one teenager. She and her husband, David who is a physician, have been married 27 years. Amy lives, works and writes in West Philadelphia, though a large part of her heart resides in Africa. More about Amy.
